In March, Ringgold was awarded $200,000 for the development of Slabtown Park and the extension of the city’s trail system along South Chickamauga Creek using plans and renderings developed by the UGA Carl Vinson Institute of Government. Plans for the 14.5-acre greenspace transform a former industrial site into an inviting community park. Proposed amenities include a new canoe launch, creek-side trails, a pavilion, and other elements on a wooded site adjacent to Ringgold High School. The funding is part of $3.1 million from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Recreational Trails Program for 17 projects across the state.
